The Importance of Think 20 in Shaping Global Policy

The Think 20 (T20) is an international network of think tanks and experts that operates within the G20 framework. Its primary objective is to generate research-driven ideas and policy recommendations on crucial global challenges such as climate change, social inequality, inclusive economic growth, and digitalisation. By offering evidence-based analysis, the T20 equips G20 leaders with the tools necessary to make informed and responsible decisions.

The significance of this network lies in its function as a bridge between academic institutions, research organizations, and governmental bodies. It facilitates the translation of innovative concepts into actionable public policies at a global level. The T20’s recommendations target key areas including the transition to clean energy, the reduction of inequalities, and the advancement of sustainable economic development.

What sets the T20 apart is its ability not only to propose solutions but also to challenge policymakers to adopt new perspectives, consider diverse societal voices, and make decisions that will have long-term impacts. This event represents a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue and contribute to shaping the future of global policy.

There will be two main panels. The first, ‘The Role of Environmental Defenders in a Rights-Compliant Just Transition’, will address the crucial role of environmental defenders in a just transition that respects human rights. The second panel, ‘Advancing a Human Rights-Based Just Transition through National, Regional, and International Frameworks’, will focus on how to promote a just transition through legal frameworks at different levels. After each session, participants will work in groups to develop recommendations aligned with the T20 objectives.
